Sarn helen garden earth ship

First day finished on the training course down in Brighton on 'how to build an earth ship'. Today covered how to build the tyre wall and also the different treatments of human waste.

It's hard to believe you can create a building from something as simple as tyres. Going to take some real work to build but with some help from volunteers and local members I'm pretty confident it's going to happen.
Hopefully it will house our shop front and works area, but that's to come in the planning stage.

Sarn Helen Garden team building day

On saturday 15th October the Sarn Helen Garden team alongside the Dovecote nursery staff went on a team day that was run by local business Call of The Wild from Seven Sisters. The day consisted of firstly caving at Porth Yr Ogof, Ystradfellte and then onto paintballing at Nant Y Cafan, Seven Sisters run by TopGun paintball & claypigeon shooting.
At the start there were a few concerns over the tight spots in the cave but everyone got through even though some got slightly stuck, only for a moment tho. Plenty of water, plenty of darkness and well recommended.
The paintballing activity started off with a demo of how a paintball "felt" when shot at someone and then onto different types of games.

Welcome to the Sarn Helen Garden Blog

We are a local, non-profit community garden based in the Dulais Valley. We aim to provide, fresh affordable fruit and vegetables to the community, as well as suppling local cafes and restaurants with a source for sustainable produce. We are currently funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, but overall vision is that of financial, social and environment sustainability.

We are a team of five members of staff, and we work with numerous volunteers and local organisations. Our garden is always open to customers and interested volunteers, we aim to give you a warm welcome. Please feel free to pop along to see the garden, and maybe purchase a cauli or two!
